Unión y Fuerza
Mrs. Gloria Morales, 78, is trying to establish a political party named Unión y Fuerza (Union and Strength).
The woman has three children and eight grandchildren, but far from feeling apathetic about politics, she focuses on actions that reduce corruption.
Morales, who was a commercial announcer, is accompanied by a group of citizens who share her ideals, and fight to register the party and compete in national elections.
We are taking baby steps. Some people tell me to enjoy life and not get into that, but how can I sit back with everything that is happening in my country, so much corruption?”
explained the woman.
Due to the deadlines set by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), this group has no time to register for 2018 elections. However, Morales and the group of supporters are determined to meet the requirements to establish the party, and remain active with complaints and actions against dishonest behaviors.
We have to do something for this country, we do not support corruption, and we do not want the reelection of Figueres,”
said Morales.
For the next elections, 10 new parties applied for registration with the TSE, but only two of them did it at a national scale, so they will compete for the presidential chair: the Workers Party, and Liberal Progressive.
And to fight for legislative seats at a provincial level, the following groups applied: Actuemos Ya (Cartago), Nuevo Partido Socialista (San José), Organizador Puntarenense, Todos (San José), Unión Guanacasteca, Vanguardia Popular (Limón), Animalista (San José) y Vamos (San José).
The Court reported that there are already 85 registered political parties, 57 at a cantonal level, 12 at a provincial level, and 16 at a national level.
