Greater vehicular control for Christmas and New Year to start now

The Transit Police will participate in at least seven activities from now and throughout the month of December.

This weekend, the Christmas tree lighting in Children’s Hospital is one of the activities to which the traffic police will appoint six officers to control vehicular and pedestrian movement outside the medical center.

For Friday and Saturday, other six officers will be working in Hatillo, around the Telethon to be held in that community.

That same Friday, two officers will be near the Plaza de la Cultura in San José, during the tree lighting.

The operations for December also cover the Cycling Tour of Costa Rica, for which 20 officers will be appointed.

With the same amount of staff, they will cover the Tope and Carnival, to be held in the capital on December 26th and 27th, respectively.

According to Commissioner Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police, this activities are related to the proximity of the most demanding period of the year for the police, due to saturation of roads, recreational activities involving road closures, Christmas shopping and massive displacement to and from the country’s coasts and rural areas after Christmas.

As a challenge, the Traffic Police will seek to reduce the number of 40 deaths reported last December, with 260 control operations on the road, day and night.
