In just two months, national authorities seized about 20 million units of illicit cigarettes at border posts, for wrong tariff classification and for not having permits issued by the Ministry of Health among other irregularities.
According to estimates by the Risk Management Division of Customs, the tax evasion for this crime reaches ¢ 850 million.
This was part of the international operation Gryphon II, led by the World Customs Organization and held simultaneously worldwide, from March, 1st to April, 30th this year.
