Harassment: the main infraction in Costa Rican jobs

Sexual harassment became the main offense detected by the Ministry of Labor in the inspections with a gender focus carried out in different work centers throughout the country. In a statement, the Labor authorities indicated that in 373 visits made last year, the rights of 4,048 people, 2,925 men and 1,123 women were protected.

The greatest number of gender discrimination infractions were sexual harassment with 803 cases, followed by the restriction of the rights of the pregnant worker with 337 cases, and the illegal dismissal of pregnant workers with 324 infractions,”

said Nancy Marín, Deputy Minister of Labor.

In addition, new infringements of discrimination were detected in processes such as:
Hiring
Granting incentives
Granting opportunities for scholarships, permits or decision making
Salary differences

It allows us to move forward to have greater equity between men and women in the labor field. The Ministry will continue working on this line to have a more equitable society in the work centers,”

said Marín.
