Heavy rains caused floods in the South Zone

The National Emergency Commission (CNE) confirmed that due to the heavy rains of the last hours, the southern part of the country suffered floods.

According to the first reports, the towns of Golfito, Osa, Palmar and Garabito, in Puntarenas, are the places where more rain fell and, as a consequence, there was saturation of rivers and sewerage systems.

(…) We have had multiple reports, mainly in the southern part of the country, and the fall of trees due to winds in Garabito,”

explained Pérez.

The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) reported that the conditions facing the country are the result of the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

The atmospheric instability in the national territory has increased. Therefore, during the morning the cloudy sky has prevailed in the country with scattered rains near the Guanacaste Range. In the afternoon, there will be showers with thunderstorms along the coast of the Pacific slope; starting around noon in the South Pacific, and gradually extending to the Central and North Pacific. Maximum amounts between 50-60mm are expected,”

said the entity.
