On Monday afternoon, heavy rains affected different parts of the country, but mainly the Central Valley and North Zone. In fact, at 3 p.m. the IMN’s electric shock sensor had 67 lightning strikes in the Greater Metropolitan Area.
According to the Communications Department of the Fire Department, there were floods in the sector of Grecia and Vuelta de Jorco, which left only material damages.
The Delegation of the Fire Department in Río Cuarto de Alajuela said that the branch of the area is very grown, as well as Toro River. However, this is only in the mountainous area. In the urban area the channel is normal.
The entity also mentioned that in Puntarenas the rains began at 5 pm and were very intense.
In San Carlos, heavy rainfall also caused flooding, which led to the closure of the bridge located in the area of Florencia towards the new road to Santa Clara.
According to Sigifredo Pérez, Chief of Operations of the CNE,
Conavi has subcontracted a company in that sector (Sánchez Carvajal). They moved a bridge that was in the area, to build a new one and provisionally put some sewer pipes with a temporary step so that the population can transit… But Peje River grew too much due to the precipitation and the sewerage system, which they established on the provisional passage, did not supply (…) This generated the closure of the route (…).”
