Hepatitis A cases increase in Alajuela

The Ministry of Health reports a slight increase in cases of Hepatitis A at the San Rafael de Alajuela hospital.

According to Rodrigo Marín, director of Surveillance, between eight and six weekly cases have been reported, while at the beginning of the year only an average of one per week was reported.

We have had a slight increase in the last 10 weeks. The Ministry of Health is taking all measures to prevent a greater problem,

said the doctor.

Marín added that studies were done in the water of the canton, however, it was ruled out that this is the cause.

The water is 100% potable, so there is no need to alarm the population. If it had been an outbreak through the water for human consumption we would not have had 6 or 8 cases, but there would have been thousands,”

added the doctor.
