Homeless people will have a national day of inclusion

The National Day for the Inclusion of Homeless People will be held on December 9th , in order to publicize the efforts made by different institutions and organizations, led by local governments and structured in a network of multidimensional attention services, aimed at solving the needs of people who live in the streets.

The National Policy of Comprehensive Care for Abandoned and Homeless People and People 2016/2026 emphasizes the identification of specific needs of local nature, so the local government had to lead the conformation, development and maintenance of strategic attention networks. The goal is for all the cantons of the country to implement the successful network service model.

The Joint Institute of Social Assistance coordinates actions, strategic accompaniment, and technical advice. The National Plan has several objectives, including:
• Sensitize, motivate and commit local governments.
• Sensitize and train civil society for adequate attention.
• Sensitize and train the staff of private companies on the correct form of attention.
• Assist, relocate, and rehabilitate homeless people.

Emilio Arias, Minister of Human Development and Social Inclusion, said homeless people are included in the vulnerable population, but they have been excluded.
