Hydroelectric dams management will be investigated for actions during Hurricane Otto

The Environmetal Committee of the Legislative Assembly will investigate if the management of hydroelectric dams in Upala’s Highlands was related to the damage of Hurricane Otto in that canton.

This was stated by legislator Edgardo Araya from Frente Amplio, after the legislative body approved a proposal regarding the situation.

According to Araya, in Upala there are rumors and concerns among many people who wonder if the hydroelectric dams had something to do or had an impact on the disaster that resulted in 10 dead people.

Araya also stated that at some point they disscussed the possibility of the floodgates of the dams might have opened at an inconvenient time.

As part of the investigation, Araya said that Legislative Body will call representatives of the hydroelectric plants for some declarations and that they will visit the area.
