Hydroponic marijuana’s producers could spend the next 6 months in custody

Two subjects linked to hydroponic marijuana’s production in large quantities could spend the next 6 months in custody. Deputy Prosecution’s Office Against Organized Crime (FACDO) made the request at a hearing held on Thursday morning.

A Nicaraguan man named Urbina Gudiel and a Dominican named De La Cruz were arrested on Tuesday by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) in operations in Belén and La Garita de Alajuela.

De La Cruz ran the laboratory, located in a luxurious residential house in Belén in Heredia. They produced 200 kilos of marijuana every month, then they sold it in the country and even beyond Costa Rica’s borders.

Yesterday, 108 kilograms of marijuana and Audi brand vehicles were seized in Belén and it was necessary to extend the operation to De La Cruz’s house, located in La Garita de Alajuela. There, money was seized: 20,4 million colones and 94,157 dollars, two GMC Yukon and Ford cars and three guns,

said the Public Ministry.

Urbina ran the laboratory, while De La Cruz coordinated the production and delivery of the drug.
