IAFA proposes to work on the availability of alcohol

The Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) organized a forum following the high number of road accidents that happen as a result of alcohol consumption.

For this reason, the institute brought together representatives of the Road Safety Council (COSEVI) and the Trauma Hospital, in order to study all the cornerstones of this problem.

In Costa Rica, traffic accidents linked to the consumption of drugs and alcohol is prevalent in 87% of cases.

In addition, 45% of road deaths linked to alcohol correspond to motorcyclists.

It is our job to work to change the social perception and availability of alcohol,”

said Luis Sandi, director of IAFA, during the forum.

One of the most important elements OF the activity was the discussion of the consequences of these accidents, which replicate not only on the driver under the influence of alcohol, but on innocent victims and their families.
