On October 5th, the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) presented a request for an increase in the rates of generation, transmission, distribution and public lighting, among others, which would apply as of January 1st, 2019 if approved.
According to the list of applications submitted by the state company, the low voltage distribution rate -which reaches households and most companies- would increase by 12.77%.
This increase would generate additional income to ICE for ¢ 43,311 million.
The monthly prices would include a fixed charge of:
¢ 3,290.18 for consumption between 0 and 40 kWh
¢ 82.25 per kWh between 41 kWh and 200 kWh
¢ 148.24 per kWh greater than 200 kWh
Additionally, ICE requested an increase of 7.48% for generation rates, which would bring additional revenues of ¢ 34,500 million. It also requested an increase of 25.68% for transmission rates, expecting revenues of ¢ 27,900 million. Public lighting will also be subject to an increase of 8.14%. This would generate additional resources for ¢ 79.6 million.
ICE also made a request for a rate adjustment for the concept of purchasing energy from private generators for ¢ 5.426 million.
