ICT launches campaign to reduce single-use plastic consumption

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) sent a clear message to companies: it will support any initiative, as long as it has a plan for the proper handling of solid and liquid waste; especially regarding the consumption of single-use plastic. Why? To minimize the impact of this material on the environment.

A plastic bag takes about 150 years to disintegrate, and a plastic bottle (PET) can take 1,000 years to disappear.

According to Alberto López, general manager of the ICT they

intend to assume a strong leadership, taking firm steps in reducing the consumption of single-use plastic, and contribute to the institutional policies of reduction and adequate disposal of waste, because we want to be an example of positive actions.”

In coordination with the Supply Department of the institution, the Institutional Strategy for the Reduction of Single-Use Plastic Consumption will reinforce the inclusion of environmental criteria (less packaging, reusable products, waste management plans, among others).

The strategy was presented at the end of January to all the officials and the actions will be obligatory.
