If Campos Mendoza had an arrest warrant, why was he free?

Campos Mendoza, suspected of murdering an 8-year-old child in Guácimo, freely walked the streets, as if nothing happened, even though there was an arrest warrant against him.

Before the crime, he had two accusations: an alleged attempt of abuse in 2012 and an alleged child sexual abuse in 2014.

Since he didn’t appear for the investigation, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant to take him to the office. But the subject was never found… What happened?

After having the warrant, the judicial police management should introduce it into the computer system and assign a group to perform the capture.

According to the prosecution, every 3 months a list with updated arrest warrants is sent to the OIJ. In Campos Mendoza’s specific case, the Office of Pococí confirmed that updates on the arrest warrant were conducted as established.

When asked about Campos Mendoza’s case, who had records of robberies and who was a drug addict, the Ministry of Public Security spokesman explained that the arrest warrants are handled by the OIJ.

Campos Mendoza will spend the next 6 months in pre-trial detention while he is being investigated for the alleged crime of murder.
