If Otto recovers its strength, it could become a category 1 storm: what does that mean?

Otto could recover its hurricane strength in the next few hours, but it would remain in the lowest category, the number 1, which is the weakest of all scales.

According to the map projection of the National Hurricane Center (CNH), the cyclone will hit the Caribbean coast between Costa Rica and Nicaragua on November 24th.

When Otto hits land, it will be more than 170 kilometers from the center of Limón.

The Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale, which measures the intensity of hurricanes, states that a Category 1 hurricane has a wind speed that goes from 119 to 153 kilometers per hour. Floods in coastal areas and short-range damages in ports are some of the possible damages. Houses built with wood could be affected and landslides could take place.
