If you crash the train, you could lose your driver’s license

A reform to the Traffic Law aims to remove the driver license to those who crash the train.

The initiative was proposed by legislator Rafael Ortiz.

According to the proposal, the driver would accumulate 12 points when he/she disrespects the stop sign and collides with the train or one of its wagons. The total accumulation would allow the suspension of the license for one year.

The project also includes a category B fine (¢ 189 thousand) and the accumulation of 4 points in the driver’s license if he/she disrespects the stop sign and damages any of the devices installed on the railway.

In addition, those who disrespect the traffic sign, park or obstruct with any type of vehicle the railway will receive a ¢ 94,000 fine.

Crashing against the train means hours of traffic jams and we must stop that now. It is all drivers’ responsability not to collide against the train so as not to aggravate the traffic congestion in our country,

declared the legislator.
