Illegal exercise of medicine puts people’s health at risk

The Attorney General, Emilia Navas, said that many people put their health at risk by hiring the services of unqualified people which is part of the crime of illegal exercise of the profession.

Navas had a meeting with the President, the Prosecutor and the Legal Advisor and of the College of Dental Surgeons of Costa Rica, Rafael Porras Madrigal, Raquel Ulloa Venegas and Pamela Pardo Mora, respectively.

It will always be convenient to take the time to confirm if the doctor is registered in the respective professional school. In most cases, when cases of illegal exercise of the profession reach the Public Ministry, they are accompanied by severe damages that compromise or have already compromised the lives of people,”

said Navas.

According to the Attorney General, the College of Dental Surgeons expressed its interest in ensuring that its members perform their work with excellence and that this is not done by people who have not studied to carry out this type of care.

The illegal exercise of the profession is sanctioned in the criminal sphere, with up to two years in prison.
