IMAS allocated ₵ 600 million for victims of Otto

Many of those affected by Hurricane Otto have already benefited from the Joint Institute for Social Assistance (IMAS), which executed 600 million colones from its budget.

According to IMAS, more than a thousand families (3759 people) have received help throughout the country.

That money will be used to meet the needs of food, shelter, basic goods and seasonal rental payments. It can even be used to purchase building materials.

In the canton of Upala, the most affected area, more money has been allocated with a total of 380 million colones for 355 families (1210 people).

La Cruz in Guanacaste received 87 million, Bagaces received 36 million and Golfito received 20 million.

From the beginning we presented a strategy for emergency care, and in this second stage, we will present clear and transparent reports per canton,”

said Emilia Arias, Minister of Human Development and Social Inclusion and Chairman of the IMAS.

Each beneficiary family receives the money after a previous study and assessment of the government official.
