IMN warns that rains saturated soils of 14 cantons

The heavy rains of the last days have maintained saturated soils in 14 cantons, according to a warning by the National Meteorological Institute (IMN).

The report published by this entity indicates that the situation affects Paraíso, Dota, El Guarco, Jiménez, Golfito, Cañas, Sarapiquí, Tilarán, Abangares, Heredia, Barva, San Rafael de Heredia, Moravia and Pérez Zeledón.

According to the IMN, the proximity of the zone of inter-tropical convergence (where the trade winds of the northern and southern hemispheres converge) caused heavy downpours in recent days. The main impact has been concentrated in the Pacific, Central Valley and high parts of the Caribbean.

In Cartago, during Sunday, 33.8 mm of rain were recorded in the period between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Only on Sunday, 50 incidents were reported following the rains in 15 cantons. As a result of these conditions, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) maintains 249 people in 10 shelters distributed between San José and Cartago.

The yellow alert statement is maintained for these zones:
Central Pacific.
North Pacific.
South Pacific.
Central Valley.
Huetar Norte.

The CNE requested caution in areas vulnerable to floods due to saturation of sewers or increase in the flows of the rivers.
