The downpour in San José from noon until 12:40 p.m. almost doubled the daily average precipitation for a typical September day in the rainy season.
According to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), based on data from the Aranjuez station, 32.4 millimeters of rain poured down during those 40 minutes, and the average precipitation for an entire day in this month is about 13.43 mm.
The information was provided by the IMN, through a report published in social networks.
The rainy conditions reported in that period were sufficient to cause multiple incidents. Among them, a landslide on the bridge over Torres River in Bajo de Los Ledezma, in La Uruca.
The IMN indicated that the strong influence of the rains did not focus in the heart of San José.
Currently, the whole country, except the Caribbean, is under yellow alert. There are nine shelters in different parts of the country, serving 188 people,”
