In May, someone died on the road every 24 hours

The road mortality rate during May was one per day.

The Road Safety Council (Cosevi) confirmed that 31 people died. The figure is almost similar to that reported in February, the month with the least fatality, with 30 cases. However, May presents a more favorable indicator in terms of the daily average.

According to Germán Marín Sandí, director of the Traffic Police, these figures -in a certain way- represent a relief compared to previous years.

Additional information:

192 deaths on the road, as of June 3rd.
95 motorcyclists
559 motorcyclists sanctioned for not wearing a helmet.
593 motorcycles confiscated.
026 motorcycle license plates confiscated.

The second most deadly vehicle is the sedan, with 46 fatalities in five months and the pickup follows with 11 cases. The imprudence of the driver already adds 47 deaths in the year, followed by the invasion of lane with 40 cases and speed abuse with 34 fatalities,”

says the report.
