Every day, 8,000 people use the train to travel from Heredia to San José. Therefore, the wagons that cover that route are always at their maximum capacity.
INCOFER expects that by extending the hours beyond the “rush hour”, passengers could be distributed to avoid overcrowding on the train.
We want people who use the train in order to go to medical appointments or students from 6 universities not to use the transport at rush hour: we want them to use the new schedules instead of traveling from 7 am to 8:30 am, which are the most difficult hours,
stated María Fernanda Arias, INCOFER spokeswoman.
On November 18th, the situation worsened. A mechanical problem caused that the train offered the service from Heredia to San José with 2 wagons less than usual.
They tried to put 300 people in a space for 150. The number of users traveling from San Joaquín and San Francisco requires more than 4 train cars. Collectors asked us to move toward the center, we made double lines, but they did not realize that there was no room for a mosquito,
said Daniel Delgado, one of the users.
The Heredia-San José route is one of the most requested by the users. The INCOFER spokeswoman declared it was an unexpected event.
INCOFER expects that users start using the new the new timetables on the coming days.
