In three years the country will have nine geothermal power plants

The award for the Pailas II Geothermal Project located in Liberia is ready. The company Initec Energy SA will be responsible for developing the design and commissioning of the equipment.

While the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) is responsible for the construction and installation of the turbine in the powerhouse, with the supervision of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems; the company that developed the equipment. The turbine that will operate the project was created with the latest technology.

The project will have a capacity of 55 megawatts and can generate enough electricity to meet the consumption of 137,000 households.

The works on the plant are still halfway but it will be ready in 2019. Two other geothermal projects are expected to be carried out by ICE in 2023 and 2025.
