INCOPESCA’s director retires

The technical director of the Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (INCOPESCA), Antonio Porras, announced his retirement after 37 years of working in the fishing activity.

A graduate in biology from the University of Costa Rica, with a postgraduate degree in aquaculture in Brazil and doctoral studies at Universidad Santiago de Compostela, Spain, he was one of the first officials of INCOPESCA.

The press tried to reach him, but the director is not in the country now.

INCOPESCA had not appointed a substitute at least until the end of the year.

Porras was practically the spokesman of the institution until now. He was also in charge of everything related to the fishing and aquaculture of the country, planning and executing the plans for the development of these activities in Costa Rica. In addition, he represented the country in countless congresses, forums, seminars and conventions at international level.

In recent years, Porras devoted much of his work to the Marine Areas of Responsible Fisheries, the voluntary guidelines for small-scale fishing and the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The man argued he needed to devote more time to his family.
