Indigenous communities will have access to health

February 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Access to health approaches 1,085 inhabitants of indigenous communities such as Katsi, Dururpe, Alto Katsi, Bris, Namuwoki and Santa Elena, in the Atlantic area of the country.

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) delivered 20 vehicles to enter areas with difficult geographical access. This is intended to make more efficient the transfer of patients, as well as their care and home return.

In many of these areas there are no roads, so if a patient has to go to a health center, the person should do so on foot and through threshing floors.

By doing this, they aim to deal faster with situations such as labor, childbirth, snake bite, victims of traffic accidents and heart attacks.

The vehicles were distributed in 4 health areas of the cantons of Talamanca, Valle La Estrella, Matina and Siquirres. The purchase had a cost of about $ 470,000.
