Enrique Egloff, president of the Chamber of Industries, said it is not true that private companies consume bunker and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidized by the state.
The prices we pay are not the lowest. With the decree we simply achieved prices closer to international costs,”
said Egloff.
The industry representative said that with the decree signed by President of the Republic, prevented many more companies to leave the country in times when the closure and transfer operations of multiple companies was constant.
Several sectors, including the movement “No more RECOPE”, demand the President to repeal the decree by claiming that for every liter of gasoline purchased 9 colones are intended to subsidize fuel and asphalt consumed by enterprises.
Some legislators, such as Otto Guevara, from the Libertarian Movement, and Mario Redondo, from the Christian Democratic Alliance, asked the Office of the Comptroller General to investigate the presidential decree, stating that about 90 companies (22 of which are private) benefit from what Costa Ricans pay.
