Innovation competition will reward the best Costa Rican ideas

After traveling through the five peripheral regions of the country in search of entrepreneurs interested in innovation, the Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) looks back at the Central Region in search of projects that feed the stock exchange of ideas from which to select the 14 finalists for Seedstars Costa Rica.

The final of the contest will be held on September 19th, starting at 9 a.m., at the Wyndham Herradura Hotel, as part of the program of activities that make up the 2017BTM exporters mission. Those interested in participating can register before September 11th.

Marcial Chaverri, coordinator of financing for export and import and organizer of Seedstars, explained that

this second edition of the contest has given us the opportunity to know the ideas that are generated in every corner of the country, and, although for us it is an advantage because it may strengthen the country’s exportable supply, for the participants is a major challenge in the competition.”

Those who manage to demonstrate the potential of their idea will be chosen as finalists. This depends on numbers, oratory capacity and also a functional English level in two categories:
• Innovative SME: innovative business, aimed at national firms that have two or more years of operation and have a new product or service they want to enhance.
• Entrepreneurship: startups, innovative projects of companies that are in the initial phase of their business.

Unlike regional calls, those interested in joining the final must submit a pitch deck in English as part of the registration requirements, which will serve as input for the final presentation.

This time, the jury will be composed of Patricia Hansen, Director of Acceleration Startup Chile, Katka Lepzing, Director of Acceleration Kickstars Fund Switzerland, José Rafael Brenes, general manager of the National Stock Exchange, Pedro Beirute Prada, general manager of PROCOMER, Matevz Gantar, representative of Seedstars Foundation Switzerland and Michael Ben-Eli, CEO of Sustainability Labs.
