International arrest warrant against father Mauricio Víquez

The judiciary confirmed to CRHoy.com that on Tuesday it issued the international arrest warrant against the priest Mauricio Víquez Lizano, who was accused of abusing a minor.

The sanctioned priest is out of the country since January 7th. There are also nine canonical accusations against Víquez for alleged sexual abuse of altar boys. These join two canonical accusations against the Archbishop of San José Monsignor José Rafael Quirós for concealment since he knew about the accusations against Víquez since 2003 and it was not until 2018 when he took action.

Víquez is not the only Costa Rican priest who has an arrest warrant. The same thing happened with Enrique Vázquez, in 1998, when he left the country after being reported for abuses.
