An index which measures the prosperity of the countries based on their education, health, economy, business environment and more, places Costa Rica as the second most prosperous country in Latin America (below Uruguay) and includes it among the 30 most outstanding countries of the world.
The Legatum Institute measured the economic quality, governance, safety and security, personal freedom and the natural environment, among other variables.
However, experts say that despite reaching the second position, this could be misleading to think that Costa Rica is, by nature, thriving.
According to experts, it would seem that the country is well placed to challenge its much larger South American counterparts. However, these improvements mask a relatively static profile prosperity which makes it difficult to achieve future prosperity.
As for the Economic Quality, Costa Rica was placed in the 68th position; it occupied the 38th position in business enviroment; Governance is measured with indicators such as effective governance and political participation and democratic country: Costa Rica was placed in 31st position. The index also took into account access to education and quality of human capital, placing the country in the 51th position.
