When leaving the voting grounds in the School of San Cristóbal Sur, former resident and former presidential candidate José María Figueres assured that his vote was for Carlos Alvarado, candidate of the Citizen Action Party.
I believe that he is the person who can assemble a team of different political parties to move this country forward.”
Then he broke into tears saying
I never wanted to be in an election where Liberation is not in the ballot,”
adding that the country has become polarized, and that he feels hurt that National Liberation has been left out of the second round.
I see the Costa Rican family torn apart and sense a bitter tone in the way we have treated each other. This is the pain I feel when I see that some want to vote with hate in their hearts instead of love for our country,”
said Figueres. He also assured that it is very important that after the results everyone unites under a single flag.
