Juan Santamaría Museum offers free guided tours

Juan Santamaría Cultural Historical Museum (MHCJS) announced the possibility they offer for teachers of basic and higher education who want to supplement their teaching activities about the 1856-1857 National Campaign. These educators will be able to take their students to the free “Educational Guided Tours” held in the museum, located in what used to be the Prison and Arms Quarters of the province of Alajuela.

Adrián Cháves, head of Education and Cultural Promotion, reported that

the idea is for students to approach history through texts, works of art and events from this period, handed to them as audiovisual resources and artistic elements, such as collections of works of art, armament and old objects exhibited by the Museum.”

According to the Museum, the visit adapts to the participants and offers a space for dialogue that encompasses the characteristics of nineteenth-century Costa Rica, such as population, society, culture and economy.

Tours are offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from Tuesday to Saturday. They target students and the general public. This activity was designed for organized groups of 10 or more people, with a maximum of 90.

Visits are a free service. However, you should reserve your space.
