In a protest before the Legislative Assembly, employees of the Judiciary demand that legislators reject the proposal of the Superintendency of Pensions (SUPEN) to reform their retirement scheme.
The representatives of the different organizations insist on the inconvenience that the Committee on Pension Regimes of the Congress would dictate the bill based on the SUPEN proposal and want it to be done on the basis of a text previously submitted by the unions.
This last proposal was rejected by that legislative body, which rather welcomed the approach made by SUPEN.
The unions also ask the legislative plenary to vote in favor of a request from the commission with the objective of extending the deadline for ruling the pension reform bill of the Judiciary, which will expire on Wednesday.
The plenary was to meet and vote the motion on Tuesday afternoon.
The idea of approving a second extension to the commission until July 30th aims to give time to the latest actuarial study of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), that would serve as a decisive input for the bill. The UCR will send that report in June.
The plenary must authorize the extension of the deadline with a minimum of 38 votes in favor because the initiative is being processed through a fast track.
