July 2019 temperatures were the highest in the world since registration, said the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on Thursday, confirming earlier observations of the European Union.
Much of the planet suffocated with unprecedented heat in July, when temperatures rose in the hottest month ever recorded. Record heat also reduced Arctic and Antarctic sea ice to historic lows, ”
said NOAA, the US Department of Commerce’s scientific agency.
According to the NOAA, the average global temperature in July was 0.95 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average of 15.8 degrees Celsius, which made July the hottest since records began in 1880. The hottest month recorded so far on the planet had been July 2016.
Alaska had its hottest July since registration began in 2005, several countries in Europe had record temperatures, and it was also the hottest month in all of Africa as a whole.
On the other hand, the Arctic sea ice average set a record low for July, 19.8% below the average, and exceeded the previous historical low of July 2012, according to an analysis by the National Data Center of Snow and Ice (NSIDC), which used data from NOAA and NASA.
The average Antarctic sea ice was 4.3% lower than the 1981-2010 average, making it the smallest for July in 41 years of records.
