A total of 26 people died on the road last June, nine less than in May, making this figure the lowest so far this year.
According to Sonia Monge, deputy director of the Traffic Police, as of June 30th, there was a report stating there were 240 deaths as a result of traffic accidents. However, this report represents 35% fewer deaths compared to the monthly average of the first half of 2017.
Monge also pointed out that June is the second consecutive month that reflects a reduction in the number of fatalities on the road, after May totaled 35 deaths, 18 less than in April.
The work of the Traffic Police will be clearly focused on lowering the figures as much as possible. The result in the last two months encourages us and gives us signals that the work we have been doing, adapting it to the circumstances that we are detecting on the road, can and is doing well,”
said Monge.
According to the report of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT), of these 240 fatal cases, 69 have been for over speeding, 51 for driver’s recklessness and 49 for lane invasion.
