Juventudes Unidas asked PAC precandidates to include equal marriage

The group Juventudes Unidas (United Youth Alliance) announced they will fight to explicitly include equal marriage in the next government plan to be presented by the Citizen Action Party (PAC) to compete in the 2018 National Elections.

The group claimed that this public commitment is made to demonstrate a clear position on a subject on which political groups have always maintained an ambiguous position.

According to Marisa Battalla, presidential candidate for PAC Youths, it is a historical moment to take a stand.

The party and the government are ambiguous on this issue, they have not wanted to publicly compromise with equal marriage. This must end. We believe that the same love deserves the same names and the same rights,”

said Batalla.

Currently, PAC has a general commitment to any bill that regulates rights for LGBTI people. However, Battalla said that this situation is exploited by some members of the PAC for not supporting the marriage equality project that is currently in the Congress. For that reason, the program should promote reforms in next period of the National Assembly.

This party has the responsibility of being the first party to explicitly support this,”

added the young social communicator.

Battalla is a presidential candidate for the youth sector of the PAC by Juventudes Unidas, which includes the Progressive Youth and the Hope Youth Movement (Juventud Progresista and Juventud del Movimiento Esperanza).

These elections are scheduled for August 28th at Liceo de Costa Rica, which will select 10 seats with a voting right in the next PAC National Assembly, the body that defines the government plan and electoral commitments of this party.
