La Fortuna de San Carlos seeks to become the first Ecomunity in the country, which is why it works in activities that generate knowledge in the field of integral management of valuable waste and good practices in favor of the environment.
With this objective, the Integral Development Association of La Fortuna de San Carlos (Adifort) and the National Directorate of Community Development (Dinadeco), developed a day of awareness and collection of valuable waste and an Environmental Meeting in La Fortuna.
In the sensitization day, waste such as tetrapack, paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and electronics was collected.
With these activities we began to create an expectation in the community, people are already seeing that we are beginning to create awareness. As for the Collection Center, construction is almost complete and all this is aligned with Ecomunidades,”
said Carlos Varela, Adifort’s Executive Secretary.
In Costa Rica, 4,000 tons of ordinary waste are generated daily, 25% of these are deposited in rivers, vacant lots and roads, and only 1.26% are properly processed.
Given this scenario, the Government is promoting significant changes and modifications in its mobility and transport offer (public and private), in the management of its forms of energy, in sustainable construction and the industry installed in the country, as well as in the management of the waste of its citizens and companies.
