Legislator Sandra Piszk, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), questioned the creation of a third deputy minister of Labor because it means more bureaucracy, rather than strengthening the Labor Inspectorate.
On Tuesday, the Executive Branch announced the creation of the Vice Ministry of Social Solidarity Economy and appointed Luis Emilio Cuenca Botey to this position.
According to Piszk, this decision is not consistent with the most pressing needs of the population.
The legislator was surprised at first because this was announced along the closure of Nicoya, Upala, Bribrí’s offices of Labor Inspectorate, areas where violations of labor standards are high, especially for not payment the minimum wage.
Checking the Human Development Index 2016, we find that cantons such as Upala, Talamanca, Guácimo, Coto Brus and Nandayure are among the areas with the least development and it is precisely in these places where Labor Inspection offices are closing,”
said the Liberationist.
The woman insisted that the Social Solidarity Economy Deputy Minister is secondary, when compared with the delayed payment updates of the National Pension, which affects senior citizens.
