Legislator fears biofuels project is put away

Legislator Javier Cambronero, from the Citizen Action Party, fears that the Environment Commission of the Legislative Assembly puts away the bill that would help replace the use of fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gases and revive the agricultural sector.

On Thursday, the legislator announced that he would ask that the file is transferred from the legislative body to another commission to prevent they forget about it.

When everyone wants to eliminate dependence on fossil fuels, we take a step back. Before putting away a document of such importance to the development and the fight against climate change, it is preferable to send it to another parliamentary forum, where it can continue its course,”

said Cambronero.

According to the legislator, while he respects the work done by colleagues from the Committee on Environment, he disagrees with the possibility that the initiative is put away and suggests examining the Commission on Agricultural Affairs.

Biofuel production in Costa Rica lacks adequate and sufficient legal framework for incorporation into the national energy matrix.

For this reason, the legislator insist on the need of a law to regulate aspects such as availability of raw material, favorable conditions for producers and the possibilities of public-private partnerships.
