Legislator Marcela Guerrero, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), urged the Legislative Plenary to approve a regulatory reform to create an Ethics Commission in Congress that investigates and punishes legislators for lack of ethical conduct.
The legislator asked that this file be made known after the Plenary discussed and voted on the report by the special legislative commission that investigated the cementazo.
The proposal, presented by Guerrero in June 2016, seeks to include new obligations, prohibitions and sanctions for legislators. Some of the prohibitions are:
-Using credentials for personal or private matters.
-Requesting or receiving resources that may compromise or condition their work.
-Receiving royalties from public institutions or private organizations.
The Ethics and Transparency Commission would investigate and recommend to the Board of the Legislative Assembly a sanction on any accusation received related to the new duties and prohibitions of the legislators. It should also create the new Parliamentary Transparency Code, prepare reports, ex officio or at the request of a legislator or citizen, who submits an accusation.
My position is that our obligation is to vote on the report and approve the projects convened and also the reform of the Regulation that I presented to create the Ethics and Transparency Commission,”
said Guerrero.
