Legislator Piszk inteds to eliminate differences in additional payments in the public sector

A reform aims to eliminate differences in wages additional payments in the public sector. Unions are about to go on strike due to this.

The initiative, promoted by legislator Sandra Piszk, member of Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN), intends to correct differences among public servants who perform the same functions, but receive different bonuses.

Another topic that is intended to be changed is the working period in public entities: for instance, in the Central Government the time limit is 8 years, but in the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) it is 20 years.

Similar situations occur with annuity payments. In central government entities the annuity percentage is 1.90 on wages, but in public universities and some autonomous institutions it is 5.5.

As consequence, Piszk considered it is important to make standardization in some cases, but acquired rights must be respected.

The proposal also intends to regulate bonus payments for full-time contracts, prohibition, career and availability.
