On Monday, legislators concluded their last day of work by approving the bill to create the National Police Academy in the second reading, an initiative that seeks to professionalize the police service at levels comparable to those of developed countries, based on civilian principles and a vision of respect for human rights.
Lawmakers also voted in favor of a treaty that bans nuclear weapons and other 19 cases, most of them authorizations for donation of land to public entities.
After a session that began at 10 a.m., the president of the Legislative Assembly, Gonzalo Ramírez, read the resolution that closes the second extraordinary session of the fourth and final legislature.
Congressmen Epsy Campbell, Nidia Jiménez, and Laura Garro, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), Otto Guevara, from the Libertarian Movement and Ligia Fallas, from Frente Amplio (FA) did not participate in the last session.
Ronald Calvo and Danny Hayling, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), Abelino Esquivel from Costa Rican Renovation (PRC), as well as Rosibel Ramos and Humberto Vargas, from the Christian Social Unity Party (PUSC), also skipped this session.
The new Legislative Assembly will be installed on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
