Costa Rican legislators approved a motion to censure and condemn the attack perpetrated several days ago against the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, by violent and armed groups against the democratic system.
The motion was approved with 28 votes in favor and 11 against.
The motion approved also condemned the physical aggression against several legislators and of that parliament.
Karla Prendas, from PLN, said that this was the third time they had raised that motion and that it could not be voted before because of the parties Frente Amplio y Acción Ciudadana.
Marco Redondo, from PAC, said that the Legislative Assembly does not have the power to issue guidelines on foreign policy, as this contravenes the Political Constitution.
However, Rolando González, from PLN, pointed out that the Assembly cannot ignore what happened in the Venezuelan Assembly.
The motion also sends congratulations to the mobilization achieved on Sunday in several communities to vote on a plebiscite organized by the opposition against the Constituent Assembly.
We say that when more than seven million men and women demand that the Government suspends the call for a National Constituent Assembly and the acts of violence and censorship to which it submits the people, it is a clear sign of the sovereign will that must be heard …”
