Legislators’ massive absence prevents legislative session

On Tuesday afternoon, legislators’ massive absence prevented the development of the legislative session. The minimum quorum for sitting (38 lawmakers) was broken by the absence of 20 legislators.

Nidia Jiménez, Henry Mora and Víctor Morales Zapata, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), decided to skip the session, aswell as José Ramírez and Suray Carrillo, from Frente Amplio, and the independent Carmen Quesada.

The National Liberation Party had the most absent legislators, since Antonio Álvarez, Carlos Arguedas, Juan Luis Jiménez Succar, Olivier Jiménez, Juan Marín , Ronny Monge, Paulina Ramírez and Lorelly Trejos were not there.

William Alvarado, Rafael Ortiz, Luis Vásquez and Humberto Vargas, from the Partido Social Cristiana (PUSC) also missed the session.
In addition, Fabricio Alvarado, from National Restoration, and even José Alberto Alfaro, president the Congress were absent.

Legislator Gonzalo Ramírez, who was in charge of the presidency, said at least 10 lawmakers were allowed to leave, but 4 of them simply withdrew from the session, breaking the quorum.
