Legislators may expand investigation against Gonzalo Ramírez for “lost” report

The legislators are empowered to change the conditions of a commission of inquiry on the construction of temporary buildings in the Legislative Assembly and include in it an analysis of the actions of the previous president of the Congress, Gonzalo Ramírez.

This was stated by the current president of the Legislative Assembly Carolina Hidalgo, after legislators of various fractions point to Acción Ciudadana (PAC) for creating a “commission without teeth”; that is, having drafted the motion affirming that it was to investigate “actions” of the previous Legislature Directory, but knowing in advance that there were no proceedings.

This technicality prevents the commission from calling up the previous president Gonzalo Ramírez, or going further in the investigations.

According to Hidalgo, it only takes an agreement for legislators to expand the range of action of the investigation group.

Hidalgo dismissed the accusations that she already knew about the “non-actions” of the previous directory and in this regard said that she only made the transfers of documentation and responded to the concerns expressed by the Comptroller on June 5th.

That day Hidalgo told the CGR that it had been proved the previous Legislative Directory did not know or report any issue related to the temporary legislative buildings, and that the document supposedly sent by the Comptroller was not present.

This document was sent via email by the CGR to Gonzalo Ramírez, as evidenced by a certification sent by the Comptroller’s Office.

Ramírez affirmed that this document did not have it because the mail was not the one he used, despite it being an official email from the Legislative Assembly.

The commission seems headed to close the investigation without even calling Ramírez, unless a change in its scope is known in the next few days.
