Maureen Fallas, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), and Laura Garro, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), presented a bill that seeks to expand access to the housing bond, through a reform to article 59 of the Law of the Financial System for Housing and creation of the Mortgage Bank of Housing (Banhvi).
According to the initiative, the income limit per household would be increased to qualify for the subsidy, going from ¢383,060 to ¢593,892 plus the additional variable of per capita income that will allow controlling the problem of the size or number of members of the family.
Fallas explained that the proposal seeks to benefit a greater number of families that are currently above the income indicated by law, due to the number of members integrating the family unit, which is why they do not qualify as beneficiaries of the bond, despite being in the poverty range.
If the initiative is approved, there would be an increase of nearly 25% in the number of beneficiaries and 327,421 people would be helped.
The legislator clarified that the same profile of the beneficiaries would be maintained.
