Legislators run to avoid losing $20 million in credit to deal with Nate’s damages

Although the contract was signed since February 12th, the credit for $20 million signed between Costa Rica and the Inter-American Development Bank ( IDB ) to address the impact of storm Nate in the country, still does not see the green light in the Legislative Assembly. The legislators are now running against the clock to avoid losing it. The loan must be approved before August 12th, when the term established in the contract expires so that it can enter into force. If this does not happen, all signed agreements will be lost.

To that end, the legislators approved a motion on Monday to begin analyzing the issue.

Liberationist Silvia Hernández pointed out that it wasn’t until June 25th that they received the bill in the Handover Affairs Committee, after being put in office by the Presidency of Congress on June 20th, despite the fact that it was published in La Gaceta since May 3rd.

Nate affected a large part of the country in October of 2017 and was cataloged as a storm with a greater impact than hurricanes.
