On Thursday, the parliamentary majority agreed to ask the Government of Costa Rica for the immediate withdrawal of the diplomatic mission in Venezuela.
The Congress passed a motion in that direction with 20 votes in favor. The proposal had 18 votes against.
The initiative, led by Mario Redondo, from the Christian Democratic Alliance (ADC), indicates that the dissolution of the Venezuelan Parliament by the Supreme Court of Justice of that country
is one of the most serious violations of the rule of law and an arbitrary rupture to the constitutional and democratic order.”
The proposal condemns the violation of the democratic regime and the separation of powers because it becomes a coup d’état.
It also requests the Government of Costa Rica to ask for the implementation of the Inter-American Democratic Charter of the Organization of American States (OAS).
In an intervention before the legislative plenary, Redondo insisted that what happened in Venezuela is a coup.
No more accomplice silence to a despotic regime that oppresses its people. That is why Costa Rica must immediately withdraw the diplomatic mission in Venezuela,”
added the legislator of the Libertarian Movement, Natalia Díaz.
