In the first months of the year, the authorities report 15% fewer road fatalities, according to data from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).
In the first 90 days of 2018 there were 107 deaths on the road, while in the same period of the previous year there were 126.
The figure is seen as positive by the Director of the traffic police, Commissioner Mario Calderón, since the data for Holy Week are included, a period of the year in which fatalities increase due to the consumption of alcohol as well as the massive presence of people on beaches and long trips that entail fatigue for the driver.
However, Commissioner Calderón indicated that only in March there were 44 deaths, the same amount that occurred last December, which represents the highest figure of the year.
