Legislator Ligia Fallas, from Frente Amplio, said on Monday that she will not declare herself independent, despite being excluded, along with Jorge Arguedas, from the decisions of the party’s legislative bench.
I cannot be an independent legislator. I have respected the principles of the party. I voted alone, alone against the whole plenary, to maintain the principles of the left. I paid the political cost and I do not care,”
said the woman.
Both Fallas and Arguedas announced they will take legal measures against the decision taken by the fraction.
In Fallas’ opinion, the decision was not taken by the party, but by the leadership of Frente Amplio, which includes Patricia Mora and Rodolfo Ulloa, president and secretary general of the group, as well as presidential candidate José María Villalta.
Camacho, the new head of the bench, said that the decision to exclude Fallas and Arguedas was taken by the majority of the group. The party met in the office of Congressman Gerardo Vargas Varela to make the vote while Fallas and Arguedas waited.
Frente Amplio charges Fallas and Arguedas to have indirectly favored the election of Gonzalo Ramírez with their votes.
The party also reproaches them for joining the block of independents Carlos Hernández and Carmen Quesada for the election of the new Legislative Directory.
