Limits of Rincón de la Vieja Park were extended in 1,840 hectares

Rincón de la Vieja National Park grew and now it has 1,840 new hectares which will strengthen its protected area and protect its natural resources.

This Tuesday, on National Environment Day, President Carlos Alvarado and Environment Minister Carlos Manuel Echeverria signed a decree that extends the boundaries of this National Park created in 1973.

According to both hierarchs, the measure seeks to contribute to the biological and ecosystem consolidation, as well as to the protection of its water basins. Before this extension, the Park located in Liberia, Guanacaste, had an area of 14,161.

Additionally, the Executive Power signed a directive to reduce the consumption of plastic for single use in public institutions. Institutions such as the Ministry of Education and the Costa Rican Social Security Fund were ordered to refrain from buying products made with Styrofoam.

In turn, the Presidency asked the Congress to move forward with the Law to advance the elimination of the use of fossil fuels in Costa Rica. Through this plan, the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) is expected to boost the research and production of biofuels and hydrogen.
